I created an original pattern interpreted from standard fanny pack designs found online. I strategically used the chest pocket of the jacket to serve as an outer pocket on the bag. The main zipper of the jacket became the main opening to the bag. These decisions not only reduced waste but also made the construction easier. One challenge was dealing with the layering of the original fabric: once cut from the jacket, the internal foam and outer fabric layers separated. To make the overall construction easier, I first did a zigzag stitch along the perimeter of each pattern segment to secure the loose panels into one sandwiched piece.
